Joel Porter Joel Porter studied MA Media Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University (2007) within MIRIAD (Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art and Design); he graduated from West Surrey College of Art and Design, Photography BA (Hons) in 1994, and has since continued to pursue exhibiting whilst working in the field of web design. As a practicing photographic artist with a background working within an IT environment, Joel's recent work concentrates on utilizing technology to process imagery. In a recent work for the Manchester Urban Screen, ‘2.4Ghz Homing Pigeons’, used Bluetooth sensor technology and lo-fi processing to produce an interactive environment controlled by the commuters below, other photographic works shown during the group show ‘The World is my Imagination’ at CUBE gallery Manchester in 2007 investigate the perception of the countryside and the visitor experience. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, recent shows and projects include: Urban Screens Manchester, The World Is My Imagination, Media, Model, Miniature at CUBE Gallery Manchester, Folly Gallery Lancaster, Whitstable Museum and Gallery, the Canterbury Festival, Mai de la Photo, Reims, France as well as having photography work exhibited and held within the National Mining Museum archive in Wakefield, Yorkshire. Joel Porter is currently employed at the University of Cumbria as New Media Officer. |
